In 1968, the YAS-1 125cc arose.  This model incorporated a 5-speed gear shift that allowed maximum use of the 15 horsepower engine.  Another significant model was the YZM, in the year 1970.  This was a 250cc Motocross bike.

1975 is another celebrated date for the Japanese brand.  That year, Giacomo Agostini gave Yamaha its first 500cc world title.  The driver had already won this trophy before.  In fact, this was his 15th championship, but it was the last in his glorious career.

That same year, in 1975, Yamaha presented to society one of the more celebrated trail bikes throughout history: The XT500.  This bike was widely accepted in the American market.  In fact, this bike was principally conceived for that market.  Another very famous and well-sold trail model for the Japanese brand was the DT124MX - a 125cc bike that was one of the greatest references for the end of the 70s and the beginning of the 80s. 

In the year 1981, Yamaha launched on the market one of the most celebrated models of the Japanese brand: The SR125.  That 125cc bike has been a reference for the two-wheeled world almost since its appearance.  It is a single cylinder with exemplary reliability and a spectacular quality/price ratio.

Another historic date for the brand was the year 1985, and more specifically the Paris-Dakar competition.  Only 25 bikes were capable of reaching Dakar.  7 of them were Yamaha.

Yamaha launched on the market in 1991 a bike model that revolutionized the two-wheeled world.  The bike was the TDM850 and was a mix between a highway, urban and sports bike that reached a wide clientele base. 

1996 was a year with many developments for Yamaha.  The model TDM850 experienced great changes in the new version.  The models TRX850, YZF600R Thundercat, YZF1000R Thunderace, YP250 Majesty and SZR660 also experienced changes.
